Avoid These Colleges!
For-profit colleges (the ones that advertise on TV) are usually expensive and most are not regionally accredited (so your classes will not transfer and your degree will not count for much). Now, in addition to these problems, the state of California will not allow students to use Cal Grants at these colleges. The state will not release financial aid funds to colleges with low graduation rates and high levels of student debt. To see which colleges are banned from using Cal Grant funds, open the file below. Note that the list includes American Career College, DeVry, Everest, Fremont, ITT, the Art Institute of California, UEI, and Westwood.
