Hello! Welcome to my Santee Education Complex Web Portal.
This is my 20th year working as an educator in our public schools and my 12th year here at wonderful Santee Education Complex. While at Santee, I have taught World History and Geography, United States History, AP US History, Economics, and American Government. This year (2018-2019) marks my second year as the Categorical Programs Advisor (Title I Coordinator).
I grew up in Norwalk, California and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1992. Immediately after high school I attended UCLA. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA in 1997 with a double major Bachelor of Arts in History and Latin American Studies--and began my teaching career soon thereafter. In 2003 I completed my Master of Arts in History from the California State University Los Angeles. In 2009 I completed my Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from CSUN. I also have my Tier 1 School Administration Credential along with my Single Subject Social Sciences Teaching Credential.
I am also the Primary Leader/Coach for Santee Students Run LA. This is my 12th year as the SRLA Primary Leader. This year SRLA celebrates its 30th anniversary, as well as its 12th year here at Santee. Over the past 11 years, over 300 Santee students have trained for and completed the Los Angeles Marathon. Another group of nearly 30 students are currently training for the 2019 Los Angeles Marathon--scheduled for Sunday, March 24, 2019. SRLA provides students with an excellent opportunity to set goals and accomplish an amazing feat--run 26.2 miles. This year's marathon continues an exciting course--from Dodger Stadium at Chavez Ravine near downtown Los Angeles to the sea. I will see ya at the finish line!
Some of my interests include history, travel, music, foreign and independent films, and the great metropolis that is Los Angeles. During the summer of 2011, I was able to combine my love for traveling and music. I traveled to England, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco--and saw Bjork in concert in Manchester, England, and Animal Collective in concert in Lisbon, Portugal. Six summers ago, I traveled once again to Europe, spending time in Barcelona, Spain and Berlin, Germany. This trip was especially insightful as I was able to visit Berlin--a city which played such a pivotal role in World War II and the Cold War. During the summer of 2013, I traveled to Berlin again, Istanbul, Vienna, and Prague. And finally, during the summer of 2014, I visited Iceland, Paris, and Spain. I was also awarded a grant for Summer Travel 2015 with Teachers for Global Classrooms--a program funded by the Department of State's Bureau on Educational and Cultural Affairs. I spent nearly one month in Brazil [June 2015], part of that time exploring the Brazilian educational system.
During the summer of 2016 I spent two weeks in Germany exploring issues of sustainability, the German educational system, and the current refugee crisis. I was in Germany with the Transatlantic Outreach Program--funded by German public and private enterprises. I, along with 14 other teachers from across the United States and Canada, visited Frankfurt, Regensburg, Leipzig, and Berlin to explore issues impacting Modern Germany. It was a fascinating educational experience that will inform my instructional practice.
My most recent travels include experiences in Cuba, Peru and Bolivia.

Have a great year!
